Latté Lounge is the newest addition to The Ballina Homemaker Centre with locals already hailing it as having the best coffee in Ballina.
Charismatic owner, Nektarios Kokolinakis attributes this success to his love of coffee, food and gardening, with many of the organic ingredients used coming from his own garden.
The coffee at the Ballina Homemaker Centre is a blend called ‘Love Bites’ and is roasted by local company Ground Control Coffee Roasters, which uses state of the art equipment imported from Turkey and Italy.
All coffee beans used by Ground Control Coffee are sourced from altitudes higher than 4,500 feet above sea level – which means they are fuller in flavour, body and aroma.
Nektarios’s wife Lisa attributes the popularity of his coffee and food to something more than the ingredients.
“Nek is a really caring and friendly man. It sounds cheesy but he really does make each coffee with ‘love’ and he really enjoys chatting with people and making them feel welcome,” she said.
“A lot of his regular customers come from outside the Ballina Homemaker Centre which just goes to show that his coffee is worth jumping in the car for.”
As well as coffee the Ballina Homemaker Centre Coffee cart boasts a delicious range of homemade sandwiches, banana bread, cakes, cookies and other treats.
Mr Kokolinakis grew up in a small village on the Greek Island of Crete and has over 30 years experience in the hospitality trade in the Greek Islands, Denmark and England, he now lives in the Byron Shire with his wife and daughter.
